Ontario Liberals Sweeten Film Tax Credits...

Click image to enlarge... According to reports, the Ontario Liberal government will now allow a 25 per cent tax credit for the overall budget of films shot in the province. The 25 per cent credit had previously applied only to labour costs, usually half the cost of a production. The purchase of props, rental of studios and equipment can now be covered under the new measure. A 35 per cent Ontario Film and Television Tax Credit for labour costs for productions that qualify as domestic, will be made permanent. Film and TV production reportedly generates $2 billion annually for the Ontario economy, creating 276,000 jobs...

ACTRA Members Ratify Deal With CFTPA...

According to reports, the rank and file membership of Canadian performers union ACTRA has now ratified its contract agreement with the Canadian Film and Television Production Assn. (CFTPA) and its Quebec counterpart, six months before an existing deal expires Dec. 31. The new agreement gives film actors a rate increase of 2% each year over three years, with the rest of the previous collective agreement’s terms and conditions remaining unchanged. The new contract covers performance in film, TV and new-media, with the exception of British Columbia, where ACTRA local, the Union Of British Columbia Performers (UBCP), negotiates a separate Master Agreement...
