"Star Trek: Discovery" - Enter Michelle Yeoh



Chinese actress/martial artist Michelle Yeoh ("Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon") has now been cast as a 'Starfleet Captain' in the upcoming "Star Trek: Discovery" TV series, debuting May 2017 on the CBS 'All Access' premium streaming service:


Yeoh will play 'Captain Georgiou', Captain of the 'Starship Shenzhou'. Actors Doug Jones and Anthony Rapp have also been cast, with Jones playing 'Lt. Saru', a 'Starfleet Science Officer' and a new alien species to the "Star Trek" universe. Rapp portrays 'Lt. Stamets', an 'astromycologist', fungus expert, and 'Starfleet Science Officer' aboard the Starship Discovery.

The main female lead of the series, yet to be cast, will be "...on a journey that is going to teach her how to get along with others in the galaxy. For her to truly understand something that is alien, she has to first understand herself.


"'Star Trek': Discovery' will explore dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966..."


The new series is noted as the first show produced specifically for the All Access, and the first "Star Trek" series since "Star Trek: Enterprise" concluded in 2005.
