Sony Partners With "Wizard World"



Sony Pictures Entertainment has signed an agreement with US-based comic book convention producers "Wizard World" to option and develop intellectual properties from creators attending coast-to-coast "Wizard World" conventions:


"We are always looking for new ways to find that next generation," said Jonathan Kadin, Sony's executive vice president. "This deal gives us unique access to the incredible talent that 'Wizard World' can bring to the table, putting us in a prime position to find the stories that break through the clutter..."


"Wizard World" currently produces nine conventions across the US, including Portland, Chicago and Philadelphia, with plans to expand to Austin, Biloxi and Springfield.


In Canada, Hobbystar Marketing, a local sports and entertainment agency behind 'Toronto Comicon' and 'Fan Expo', filed a lawsuit against Wizard World Inc. in 2012, claiming a misuse of its 'Comicon' trademark name, souring "Wizard World" from staging further conventions in Canada, to the regret of many comic book fans...
