Sneak Peek "Pacific Rim" (aka "Still Seas")

Sneak Peek an artificially snowy set from director Guillermo del Toro's "Pacific Rim", (working title "Still Seas"), as cast and crew shoot a scene in downtown Toronto (Elizabeth Street), set-decked to look like downtown Tokyo, Japan after a nuclear disaster.

The PG-rated, 'mecha monster' movie has been shooting @ Pinewood Toronto Studios, since October 31, 2011.

Del Toro said "Still Seas" involves giant monsters traveling through a vortex to attack major cities.

"This is my most un-modest film, " said del Toro. "The scale is enormous and I'm just a big kid having fun."

The film stars actors Charlie Hunnam ("Sons of Anarachy"), Idris Elba ("Thor") and Willem Dafoe ("Platoon").

The hostile ET's come from the parallel world 'The Anteverse', that try to destroy humanity by first attacking cities and nations neighboring the Pacific Ocean. But the creatures are thwarted in their attempts by Earth-made, high-tech, weapons-ready robots, with Hunnam playing the role of 'Raleigh Antrobus', who 'pilots' one of the advanced 'machines' called 'Jaegers'.

Legendary Pictures purchased the screenplay for "Pacific Rim" in a pre-emptive buy from screenwriter Travis Beacham ("Clash Of The Titans").

ReelzChannel Picks Up "XIII"

The ReelzChannel network has picked up the Toronto-lensed action thriller "XIII" from Prodigy Pictures, co-produced by Luc Besson's French production company EuropaCorp Television.

Starring Stuart Townsend and Aisha Tyler, the Toronto-lensed feature follows Townsend as former secret operative, 'XIII', who loses his memory as he is hunted by an anti-government organization, with Tyler as a government agent and XIII's loyal ally.

Cast also includes Virginie Ledoyen, Caterina Murino, Greg Bryk, Stephen McHattie and Ted Atherton.

"XIII" adapts the Franco-Belgian comic book series 'XIII", created by Jean Van Hamme and William Vance.

With a plot inspired by author Robert Ludlum's best-seller "The Bourne Identity", "XIII" debuted in 1984, followed by TV adaptations and video games.

In the original comic book series :

"...the first female US President, 'Sally Sheridan' is shot dead by a sniper during her 'Veterans Day' speech. Her assassin narrowly escapes the scene with his life. Three months later, an elderly couple discover the body of a wounded man in a tree, wearing a parachute. He cannot remember the slightest thing about his own identity. The only clue is a tattoo on his neck, "XIII".

"In Washington, government intelligence continues to search for the President's killer. With elections weeks away, a credible suspect could swing the vote for the administration. Hours after XIII's location is picked up by covert intelligence, elite special ops forces swarm over the elderly couple's house in 'Cape Fear'.

"Running on adrenaline and instinct, XIII tactically takes out the soldiers one by one. On the run, clinging to one desperate clue after another, XIII begins to piece back his life, fragments of his memory returning. Finally captured, he learns that he has been given a stolen identity and placed undercover to flush out a group of conspirators threatening to overthrow the government.

"Ensconced within the highest echelons of power the conspirators run their own security agency alongside the Government's. Now both are out to find him. The only way for XIII to get his own life back is to play bait. A dangerous game, especially when you don't know who you really are..."

"XIII.2" is produced by Wanda Grean for XIII Series 2 Inc. Executive producer is Jay Firestone.

Sneak Peek "Total Recall"

Sneak Peek the first full trailer supporting the Toronto-lensed feature "Total Recall", directed by Len Wiseman ("Underworld").

The Columbia Pictures reboot filmed in Toronto May 16 to September 9, 2011, 'ditches' the Martian storyline of the 1990 feature starring Arnold Shwarzenegger , for a new premise revolving around the nation states 'Euromerica' and 'New Shanghai'.

"Total Recall" stars Colin Farrell ("Minority Report") as 'Douglas Quaid', a factory worker who begins to believe he is a spy — although he doesn't know for which side.

Cast includes Bryan Cranston ("Breaking Bad") as the villain, Bill Nighy ("Underworld") as 'Quatto', leader of the 'Resistance', Kate Beckinsale ("Underworld") as 'Lori', Jessica Biel ("The A-Team") as 'Melina' and Ethan Hawke ("Training Day") who will have a cameo.

"Total Recall" is based on author Philip K. Dick's novelette "We Can Remember It For You Wholesale", first published April 1966, in "The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction", featuring a meshing of reality, false memory and real memory.

That story followed 'Douglas Quail', a simple and ordinary man, who wishes to visit Mars. Unable to afford it, he visits a company, 'Rekal Incorporated' that offers implanted memories, or 'extra-factual memory'. The attempt to implant Mars memories of Quail as a secret agent reveals that Quail actually is an undercover government assassin with a mind full of dangerous secrets.

The Rekal staff quickly get Quail out of their office; he heads home and finds certain physical evidence to support his new old memories. The government initially seeks his death but instead Quail manages to make a deal. He returns to Rekal to have his Mars memories once more suppressed, and is offered by way of compensation a set of heroic wish-fulfillment false memories. The Rekal staff begin the memory-implanting procedure — and uncover a different and older set of suppressed memories, revealing that the unbelievable memories they are about to insert are already there and are true.

The title of the Dick short story is an allusion to the 1962 Broadway musical "I Can Get It for You Wholesale".
