Sneak Peek Spielberg's "Falling Skies"

Sneak Peek a new video promo supporting the Steven Spielberg-executive produced, Ontario-lensed, DreamWorks TV dramatic series "Falling Skies" , airing June 2011 on TNT, starring actor Noah Wyle ("ER") as resistance leader 'Tom Mason', who leads a ragtag group of survivors, following a destructive alien invasion of the Earth.

Determined to get his son back and to ensure the safety of his other two sons, Tom must put his extensive knowledge of military history to the test as one of the leaders of the resistance movement known as the '2nd Mass', constantly trying to gain intelligence about the aliens in order to outsmart and overtake them..."

There are two types of aliens in the series named 'Skitters' and 'Mechs'. Combining live action and SFX, the Skitters have spider-like bodies, while the robotic Mechs stand upright and can shoot bullets from their arms.

Along with Spielberg, "Falling Skies" is executive produced by DreamWorks TV's Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank. Mark Verheiden ("Battlestar Galactica") and Greg Beeman ("Smallville") are co-executive producers, with the pilot directed by Carl Franklin ("Out of Time").

Carmody Confirms "Resident Evil 5"

Toronto-based film producer Don Carmody confirms that the fifth "Resident Evil" feature, starring Milla Jovovich, is in active script development, to shoot in Toronto, following news of "Resident Evil: Afterlife" winning the Canadian 'Golden Reel Award', given to the highest-grossing Canadian feature film of the year.

"Resident Evil: Afterlife", the $60 million, 3D Canadian-German co-production, grossed approximately $7-million in Canada last year, adding to its worldwide box office total take of $296,221,566.

The Toronto-lensed feature was written and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, starring his wife Jovovich, Ali Larter, Kim Coates, Shawn Roberts, Spencer Locke, Boris Kodjoe and Wentworth Miller.

It is the fourth installment in a series of film adaptations based loosely on Capcom's survival horror video game series "Resident Evil". It was also the first film in the series to be released in 3D.

In the film, 'Alice' (Jovovich) is a former 'Umbrella Corporation' security officer whose exposure to the 'T-Virus' granted her superhuman abilities. Since her escape from 'Raccoon City', she has been hunted by Umbrella, who intends to use her DNA in order to control the virus' mutation.

Jovovich confirmed that her husband has started writing the screenplay for the next film in the "Resident Evil" movie franchise.

Toronto Re-Shoot For "The Thing"- January 21-29

Universal Pictures, Toronto-lensed horror feature "The Thing", produced by J. Miles Dale and directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. is scheduled for a reshoot January 21- 29 in Toronto.

The film is a prequel to director John Carpenter's 1982 feature, following a 4 month shoot in 2010 @ Toronto's Pinewood Studios.

"...Antarctica. An extraordinary continent of awesome beauty. It is also home to an isolated outpost where a discovery full of scientific possibility becomes a mission of survival when an alien is unearthed by a crew of international scientists.

"The shape-shifting creature, accidentally unleashed at this marooned colony, has the ability to turn itself into a perfect replica of any living being. It can look just like you or me, but inside, it remains inhuman.

"In the thriller 'The Thing', paranoia spreads like an epidemic among a group of researchers as they’re infected, one by one, by a mystery from another planet.

"Paleontologist 'Kate Lloyd' (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has traveled to the desolate region for the expedition of her lifetime. Joining a Norwegian scientific team that has stumbled across an extraterrestrial ship buried in the ice, she discovers an organism that seems to have died in the crash eons ago. But it is about to wake up.

"When a simple experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate must join the crew’s pilot, 'Carter' (Joel Edgerton), to keep it from killing them off one at a time. And in this vast, intense land, a parasite that can mimic anything it touches will pit human against human as it tries to survive and flourish..."

Carpenter's "The Thing" originally adapted the 1938 "Astounding Magazine" 'novella' "Who Goes There", by author John W. Campbell Jr.

The short story was also the basis of the 1951 feature "The Thing From Another World" from producer Howard Hawks and director Christan Nyby.

Premise of Campbell's original story focused on a group of scientific researchers, isolated in Antarctica, that discover an alien spaceship buried in the ice. The men unwittingly recover the alien pilot that can assume the shape, memories and personality of any living creature.

Strike Entertainment's Eric Newman and Marc Abraham produced "The Thing" prequel, with David Foster executive producing, from a screenplay by Eric Heisserer.
