The Toronto-based "Canadian Film Centre" celebrated their 25th anniversary September 8, 2013, with the CFC annual BBQ, as former students, faculty and invited guests toasted this year's TIFF/ CFC films, including work from over 50 alumni.

Despite actor Jim Carrey, who gives an amusing cameo performance in the R-rated action-comedy, "Kick-Ass 2", trashing the film before its North American release, director Jeff Wadlow's slick and satirical superhero comic book adaptation sequel, continues to gain momentum among fans, boosted by another winning performance by teenage actress Chloë Grace Moretz as the masked vigilante 'Hit-Girl'.  

The sight of Moretz as 15-year old Hit-Girl, blossoming from a foul-mouthed punk kid in director Matthew Vaughn's first film, to a teenage femme fatale that lays down the law in equal measure to vicious criminals and high school bullies in "Kick-Ass 2", brings the hope of a third "Kick-Ass" film, starring Moretz as a seasoned woman crime-fighter in her twenties:

Production will start August 12, 2013 in Toronto, for the 13-episode second season of Syfy's "Defiance", featuring new cast addition James Murray as 'Mayor Pottinger'.

Anderson will direct the 3D historical, disaster feature "Pompeii" in Toronto, April 22, 2013 to July 5, 2013 for Constantin Film and producers Jeremy Bolt and Don Carmody ("Resident Evil"), starring Emily Browning ("Sucker Punch") and Kit Harrngton ("Game of Thrones"). 

Toronto Film Has A Record Year

Thanks to a 25 per cent tax credit on all production costs, the Ontario-based film production industry logged in 273 productions in 2012, bringing in $1.28 billion to the provincial economy.

In British Columbia, pleas from the entertainment community have fallen on deaf ears as out-of-touch BC Premier Christy Clark continues to turn down requests for more generous film credits to counter the effects of a high dollar and tough competition from other jurisdictions. The BC film tax credit is currently set at 33 per cent of labor costs only. Misguided Clark recently told the BC industry, she believes other provinces will soon 'abandon' such 'rich benefits' for the film industry.
